Thread sketching and mixed media fabric painting

Def: ‘Lairy’ – Ostentatiously attractive

Meet Lairy Harey’ – the star of Thread Sketching in Action No 80!

No 80 – Lairy Harey

Minimalist thread sketching

Although this began with a rough pencil sketch as a guide on the fabric, the stitching was approached in the same relaxed manner as my Whimsical Flowers  thread sketches.  I’m not super-confident about drawing animals in stitch ‘off the cuff’, so to speak, so needed a little bit of a guide to keep my hare looking like a hare!

The minimalist thread sketching approach is all that’s necessary in a piece like this, when the plan is to enhance it later on with fabric paints.

Adding colour

A variety of mixed media fabric painting techniques were used to shade the hare, before finally adding a grassy garden for Lairy Harey to sit in!

Thanks for the Bunny. He is so cute. Neat idea painting in the Bunny and Garden. I need to try that. Also might try with colored pencils. Keep up the good ideas and please share.

    • Hi Sandra – Thanks, and yes, the garden works well – makes it a bit ‘different’. I used a mix of ink pencils and fabric paints for the background.

  2. Maureen Williams says:
